battery free phone

Battery-free cell phone

The universities of Washington engineers first offer battery-free cellphone designs that only consume some micro-watt power. New designs can understand speech, understand earphones effectively, and can switch between uplink and downlink communication in real time. The system developed by the Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering researchers and UW Department of Electrical Engineering optimized the transmission and reception of speech while simultaneously creating electricity and simultaneously allowing battery-free cell phones to be operated.

Battery free phone?

We first offer a battery-free cellphone design that only consumes some micro-watt power. Our design can understand speech, affect earphones, and switch between up link and down link communication in real-time. Our system optimizes the transmission and reception of speech, and simultaneously cuts the power, which enables continuous battery-free cell phones. Battery-free device prototype is constructed using commercial-of-shelf components on a printed circuit board. It can work on the power that is brought from RF signal based on the distance of 31 feet (9.4 meters). Besides, using ambient light with small Photodayod, we show that our device can communicate with the base station which is 50 feet (15.2 meters) away. Finally, we make the first Skype call using a battery-free phone on a cellular network, through our custom bridged base station. It is our belief that there is a big leap into the capacity of battery-free devices and is a step towards cell phones completely free of functional battery.
